UBUNTU

Well, here is my bitch, winge for today. On the train home on Friday I noticed a young man in front of me running a Linux based OS (operating system) called ubuntu, I had used this program previously when I was working at Emmanuel College (story for another time) and we were wanting a clean system on the old pcs we were giving away.

Well anyway, that night I downloaded the newest version of this OS, its free, so nothing illegal :P hehe, So today, being Saturday I decided to attempt to install it to an external hdd I had sitting around. The installation seemed to go alright with it working well, apart from the sound drivers which needed updating. After messing around with the new system I went to load back into Windows on my computers internal HDD, and guess what happened.... IT DIDNT LOAD. Somehow ubuntu loaded files onto my internal hdd during the installation and wasnt allowing windows to boot. I went through the process of trying to boot into safe mode, but it wasnt even letting me get that far. Now Im thinking, shit, my last backup wasnt for at least 3 months :S and didnt want to lose any data in regards to the progress of my car.

Sitting here thinking wtf should I do, drawing nothing but a blank. I decide to load back into ubuntu on the external hdd to chat to a few mates about how i could attack this situation. No more than 5min later noticed I could still see my internal hdd and actually access the files.

This made me happy :D I decided Id go for a clean install just for fun :P So i copy all my data onto the external hdd and it seems to be going fairly well. I start looking for my Windows XP Pro CD, nothing, cant find it anywhere... then it dawns on me. I sent it to my sister is
cairns to use cause she fucked up her computer and the only copy was in the format of an ISO file on my hdd.... Now I know I could have easily burnt it off onto a cd and then loaded windows, but I took this as an opportunity to use a linux based system as my main OS. I havent used linux very much at all before so I thought it would be good for me.

So i loaded up ubunto, copied back my data and now we are going strong :) Sitting here with my feet up on my desk, listen to music and watching my girlfriends Ghost knife swimming around its tank :) Life is good once again.

I think tonight we are going out to timezone, so that should hopefully be better than last night.
